Tour Details

Early in the morning, we’ll meet at your hotel in Rio and set off on a journey into Brazil’s imperial past. After a bus ride of about 2 hours, we’ll arrive in Petrópolis, located 68 km (42 mi) from the city.

Once there, we’ll take a guided tour to discover the most iconic landmarks of this imperial city, which served as the summer residence of the royal family in the 19th century. It was built under the orders of Dom Pedro II as a tribute to his father, Dom Pedro I.

We’ll visit the Imperial Museum, the former residence of the Brazilian Imperial Family, where we’ll explore its rooms and admire clothing, furniture, and jewels belonging to the Orleans and Braganza families.

We’ll also see fascinating sites such as the Crystal Palace, an iron and glass structure where the last slaves of the city were freed in 1888. In addition, we’ll admire São Pedro Cathedral and the Quitandinha Palace, the largest palace in Brazil and one of the biggest in Latin America.

After immersing ourselves in Brazilian history, you’ll have free time for lunch and to stroll among the city’s elegant buildings before returning to Rio de Janeiro. The total duration of the day trip is around 10 hours.

Tour + Lunch

When booking, you can choose the option that includes lunch. If you select this option, at the end of the tour of Petrópolis, we’ll enjoy a delicious buffet-style lunch to refuel.

In addition, you can round out your tour that includes lunch with a beer tasting at the historic Bohemia Brewery, founded in 1853 by the German Henrique Kremer, where you’ll learn all the secrets behind the first Pilsner beer brewed in Brazil.

Pickup Info

The tour includes pickup from hotels in the South Zone (Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, Leme, and Botafogo) in Rio de Janeiro. If you’re staying in another area, please let us know so we can arrange an alternative meeting point.
