On this 6-day tour of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, we'll enjoy a hiking route through the localities of this natural enclave.
Hike Details
Day 1: São Luís - Barreirinhas - Atins
On the first day, we'll meet at the Stop Way Hotel São Luís, where you'll be able to get yourself breakfast. From there, we'll begin a road trip towards Barreirinhas. After approximately 4 hours, we'll arrive at our destination and enjoy lunch to refuel. In the afternoon, we'll make our way to the banks of the Preguiças River and hop onto a boat that will take us to Atins.
During the trip, we'll admire the landscape of dunes bathed by turquoise lagoons and pass by the Mandacaru lighthouse and Atins beach. Upon arrival, we'll check into our hotel and you'll be able to enjoy dinner and spend the night as you wish in the city. Until tomorrow!
Day 2: Atins - Baixa Grande
As the sun rises on day 2, we'll enjoy breakfast and begin an off-roading journey towards Canto de Atins, where we'll start our first hiking route. We'll walk a total of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) through the dunes, stopping to take some refreshing dips in the water. We'll then reach Baixa Grande, a small town in the region, where we'll go to a restaurant to refuel with a delicious lunch.
After lunch, you'll have the afternoon free to relax and enjoy the sunset over the Lençóis Maranhenses. Finally, we'll reconvene for dinner and end the day at our accommodation.
Day 3: Baixa Grande - Queimada dos Britos
The fourth day will start with breakfast, which will give us the energy for a 12-kilometre (7.4-mile) hike. Let's get going! During the hiking route, we'll pass through the most central dunes of the national park. Cameras ready? The route will be amazing thanks to the surrounding environment, and we'll also take breaks to enjoy the lagoons.
When you least expect it, we'll reach Queimada dos Britos, our final destination of the day. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy a hearty lunch before leaving the rest of the afternoon free to rest and explore this beautiful place.
In the evening, we'll meet for dinner and say goodbye at the lodge—see you tomorrow!
Day 4: Queimada dos Britos - Betânia
Ready for the longest hiking route of the trip? To fuel up, we'll enjoy a delicious breakfast, tie up our shoelaces and set off on an 18-kilometre (11.1 mile) walk that will take us to the village of Betânia. On the route, we'll discover the coast of the Alegre River with its horizon that looks like a painting of light shades thanks to the dunes that surround it.
Once we reach the village of Betânia, as on previous days, we'll enjoy lunch and you'll have the rest of the afternoon free to rest. In the evening, we'll have dinner and say goodbye to the day at the accommodation. Good night!
Day 5: Betânia - Santo Amaro
Feeling well-rested? We'll start the day with breakfast before setting off on the main adventure of the day: a kayak journey along the Alegre River. Once we're ready on the boats, we'll start a 15-kilometre (9.3-mile) route until we reach Santo Amaro. Time to paddle! The river will help us glide smoothly through its waters surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Lençóis Maranhenses.
We'll arrive at our destination, and the first thing we'll do is go to the lodge to check in. Once we're ready, we'll enjoy lunch and then have the rest of the afternoon free to relax in the community of Santo Amaro. In the evening, you can enjoy dinner on your own at a local restaurant.
Day 6: Santo Amaro - São Luís
The last morning of the journey will start with breakfast and check out of our accommodation. Afterwards, at about 8 am, we'll begin the return journey to São Luís. We'll head straight to São Luís International Airport, where we'll drop you off with enough time to board your return flight.
